    How did I get here?

When did the big shift take place?  When did I become the "encampment guy" and Jeff, Maddog and Chef decide to take off for greener pastures?  (Well, okay, Maddog saw the error of his ways, but...)

I rememeber when I was a newb, and it became my job to fold up the Big Green.  For those of you that don't go back that far, our encampment used to be a random structure of poles, canvas and plywood that changed shape with every faire we did.  The roof was The Big Green, a piece of heavy, water-resistant canvas that was a deep green color that came off on your hands, garb and whatever else happened to rub against it.

Perhaps it was when Dan, Suzanne and I came up with the Big Gray that I started my move into this exalted position of Kampmeister.  Dan and I designed the framework, and Suzanne convinced her dad to donate the gray polypropylene and the migrant worker labor to sew up the new, lightweight sunshade.  After that, it was the walls... which worked well enough, but were relegated to my backyard after the Great Trailer Wreck of 2000.  They were just too bulky and heavy to transport without the trailer.  The one still has a tire mark on it where some semi truck ran over it while our entire encampment was scattered across three lanes of the 101 freeway.

Just musing on it all... how did you get where you are?
